Not only is art not selling, I used to show dogs and all my dog friends say since Katrina they are not selling puppies, a rescue person I know says people are getting animals from them more since Katrina.......so have values changed on new vs old or what?

Well, of our lifetime (those of us in the 30-50 range) this seems to be one of the biggest recessions I can remember... purebreds and art may be considered a luxury, which folks cannot afford.

I think the ability to sell is still out there. Perhaps the same sources for selling have changed,,but people will still buy. I think we as artists have to work harder and be open to changing some of our old patterns to adjust to economic changes. We always have to keep trying to get our art and ourselves 'out there' where people can see us.

that is a thought, I know an man from Iran that has been in the us since the 70's and he sells real persian rugs, he says the rich buy them put them in thier houses and forget about them but the middle class save for them as a present to themselves and appreciate them, maybe so for all art forms
