There's been a lot written lately and over the years about what "the media" is saying about this or that. Talk about your generalizations!
Even before the Internet made everyone a potential media star, there were a million voices that made up the media -- and almost as many types of media.
So when folks at the GOP convention say "the media" is treating Gov. Palin shabbily, just who are they talking about?Opinionated radio blatherers? Semi-informed bloggers? Snarky late-night talk-show hosts? Do these folks recognize the difference between the editorial/opinion pages of a newspaper/website and the straight news pages? When mainstream reporters report what critics are saying, is that an example of the media beating up the candidate?
What are your thoughts on this?
(Full-disclosure: I am a former -- and totally unapologetic -- soldier in the dead-tree division of the mainstream media.)
