Best Motion Picture...

What makes me sad about this list is that you could have written it in urdu and I would have understood it just as much. Not to say that your list didn't make sense . . . it's just that I've seen NONE of these this year. Oh WAIT, I DID see the Bee Movie (riviting!). And I'll admit, I vaguely recognize some of the names (how nice to see Julie Christie nominated!). But WOW am I out of touch.

So, while I would love to participate and provide an opinion . . . I think I will have to just sit back, read a few opinions, and then perhaps rent the 'faves'.

that was exactly my reaction... I'm wondering if the writers strike, which is affecting the late night talk shows, is part of the issue. because in past years, I might not have seen any of the nominated films, but at least knew what they were about.

This has nothing to do with the Golden Globes, but why did Sweeney Todd come out at Christmastime? Nothing says Christmas like murderous cutthroats and cannibalism.

CarolT,

Your sense of humor always makes me laugh. Yes Sweeney is dark....Everything that Director does is, though.

Maybe Thanksgiving would have been a better release considering the cannibilism and all.

I wonder if this is just one more example of me getting older - do we think the young people would recognize these nominations? Please tell me no!

Best Motion Picture...

Looking forward to seeing Juno on New Year's. We have a neat movie theater in Seattle called the Big Picture. Nice comfy couches, no one under 18 and they serve drinks and food. So we'll see it there. Going to see Sweeney Todd on Christmas Day. We usually see a new movie on Christmas (and the theaters are crowded!).

Javier Bardem –No Country For Old Men< this guy scared me for days after seeing that film. Loved Tommy Lee Jones.

From that list I've seen:

American Gangster

No Country For Old Men

Hairspray

Enchanted

The Simpsons Movie

---->I think I need to get out more.
