I find it easier to talk on line. I try not to diminish or embelish, Like Debra said no reason for it, but I do find it easier to talk to people. Im really rather shy in person but under the cover of internet its easier to talk to people.
Lies and twisted truths always come back at you. on line it may take longer but they still coma back at you so why bother...
Be well,
Pat

Oh, but it is so fun to lie over the internet! I mean, unless you really know the person...in person...how is anyone but you going to know and who is checking? This is exactly the downfall of the internet. You can get ALL the support you need if you lie or embellish...it's called digital photography and Photoshop and plagiarism...though hefty consequences with that last one. This is the internet after all...say what you feel, don't worry that there might really be another person consisting of flesh and blood, heart and soul on the other end of it. Sorry, I'm being facetious to make a point, not to be mean or argumentative. Digital world or not, it is still important to be respectful and decent to others...even though many don't and aren't.

Hi, interesting question. Since this was an actual topic of research and discussion in my graduate degree program in instructional technology, I'll throw in my two cents.
First cent: Yes, you can completely get away with lying online and never get caught, unless of course, you lie so badly that you break some sort of law. Out of personal integrity and moral fiber and simply being able to live with myself, I would not lie online. I just know it can be done and done effectively. If you doubt me, go to SingleWriters.com and look up tsudenymph and read my "The Day I Lost My Swimsuit" story. This story was written as an assignment for a graduate level writing class I took. The task was to fool the classmates into thinking my story was the real story that actually happened. Guess what? I won. I did it and not one bit of my story other than place names is accurate. I still get comments from people who think that story is a true narrative of something that actually happened to me. It IS possible to lie and get away with it on the internet. Look at how many people don't even show their real pictures on here.
Second cent: It all depends upon how much Merlot I've ingested when I go online as to how much I share...lol!
:)

Of course you tell more. It's not rocket science. I figured it out, and I'm no rocket scientist. I am out with someone, a date or a friend, and maybe I've got something to say. But you can't complete a thought, it's always interrupted. I'm not dissing that, good conversation is great, but the dynamic is different. Here you can complete a thought, bring it from inception to conclusion without the bothersome burden of in real life conversational paradigms... oh shit, I'll be right back, I left the top down on my convertible and it sounds like it's starting to rain...

...or less about yourself over the Internet and do you find yourself embellishing or diminishing facts about yourself?

It works both ways... but I think there is some weird kind of online yin-yang thang that happens and people trying hard to be what they are not are quite obvious.
Some people only believe what they want to, but that goes for real life [offline] as well. The essence of people inevitably seems to seep through anyhoo... what's the point in faking, or posting 10yr old pics of oneself? Someone, somewhere, will call you out!
