Sir, I find myself frequently disagreeing with your opinions. But in this case I give you a hearty "Well Said!"

It's really easy to hear and read about all the so called animal lovers. You wouldn't want to eat Wolf, if you think so, go ahead. Killing them is a kindness, or they will simply starve to death.
It's so obvious who are the knowledgeable ones here and have actually hunted before and Dutch, you aren't one. I remember as a young girl, we would hunt cotton tails and jacks who were of such numbers that they were destroying crops. We would go out and start shooting them at about 7:AM and by 11:AM we would each have killed 100 or more, most of them were suffering severe malnutrition and disease, we simply pulled off their tails and buried their carcass.
We would return late in the afternoon and shoot more, at 10cents a tail we could make far more in one day that our meager allowances.

Actually I am and I have. Not a lot and not lately, but I have. Prairie dog were great sport around here when I was in my teens and I've hunted quail and pheasant.
I'm not anti-hunter or anti-hunting. I was just challenging Fromz's implication that the wolves were starving from overpopulation. There's nothing in the opinion article he cited to indicate that was the case.
Rather, from what I could tell without further research, it appears that the Alaska Fish and Wildlife people have a mandate to manage the prey and predator populations for the enjoyment of the human hunters. So they hunt some wolves to leave more game for humans.
That's all well and good, but that doesn't mean that the wolves are over-populated or starving. Just that they have more of them than they want right now.
Actually, it's been a long, long time since any predator species went hungry, at least down in the lower 48. The prey species like deer and elk are the ones that starve down here and that's from the lack of natural predators. Alaska may well be different since it's so sparsely populated.

Dutch, You shot those darling puppies? Just kidding. Contact the Department of the Interior and ask your question. I'm not going to spoil the answer, so call on Monday.
Here in Southern California we have a Coyote, Bobcat and Wild Dog problem. We can't shoot them legally, but a plastic pop bottle and a 22 cal. well when packs of 6 or 7 are running down your street killing any dog or cat they can find, I figuer all bets are off.

Of all the rights we are guaranteed under the constitution (and we still have one--though somewhat tattered) the Right to Free Speech is the most frequently abused and flagrantly misused. Yet; it is the one which--after all is said and done--is the most valuable in a democratic society.
The insipid must be allowed along with the inspiring. The garish must be allowed to exist beside the gracious. The inane must be heard as is the intelligent. The ear-splitting bellowing must be tolerated in the same space as the whispered veritus. The demonstrable wrong must be permitted to co-exist with the provable right. And the crass and contemptible must be allowed expression the same as class and serenity.
For without THAT freedom we would all be shuffling from hovel to workplace--in silence--heads bowed--shoulders sagging-- eyes hollow--and spirits--dead!!
So make some noise you people and celebrate your Freedom!!!!

Dutch, my friends of long standing frequently disagree with me--vociferously. The ones who always agreed with me seem to have faded away. Thanx
