I admire your attitude. Not many feel this way if that was the situation, although I would say a rape is far more serious and has far more repercussions than a disability.

Thanks Faith. But, my personal experience includes both, and I would say my disability has hung around and caused more day to day disruption in my life. Acceptance and attitude play a huge part in overcoming any traumatic event I think.

OK Guys, I started this discussion, and since I just got off work and I see all the emotion--I must put mine in too--first this goes back 20plus years ago when abortion was not even a consideration.
I had a child in my early 20's that was born with Turner's syngone--a cousin to downs(the best as I understood.) I was told when she was born she could and would not live---can you imagine? She lived 5 months and when I awoke one morning she was deceased. She did not know my voice, where she was, and could not do any of the normal things babies do.
Do not feel sorry for me. That is not why I am sharing this part of my life of so long ago. It is just to tell you, that it is not normal to bury your children. And this child did not know she was in this world.
I know feeling run strong in this field, and most men are prolife as I have learned. My daughter are definitely prochoice.
Since the said daughters death, I did have a great daughter that has her PHD, and is a terrific love

Absolutely. I love children and have worked with Special Olympics, but would choose to terminate defective cells. My time on earth is better used to serve already born children, IMHO.

FWAllen,
Your choice of the word "retards" is grossly insensitive in this thread. Would advise you to state your opinions on this issue with a little more care, thought and sensitivity.

Kat, I think he was being sarcastic. I HOPE he was being sarcastic. Read his post right above that one.

I read that comment, and took the use of the word, as driving home a point. That point being, as I interpreted it, that a baby who has a known imperfection is not worth bearing or raising. After all, that IS the decision, is it not? That this hypothetical child to be will come "defective"? and therefore the question of abortion rises? Don't do what needs to be done, just eliminate the "problem" aka "Defective Baby".
I think, for those of us who are NOT "pro choice", his use of the word makes the point well, and is no less "sensitive" than the debate itself. But I could be wrong, I guess.
See, I am pro-choice, just DIFFERENT choices. Women know if they are at risk for Down's Syndrome pregnancies. Women KNOW how to avoid pregnancy. MEN know how to avoid pregnancy. And we ALL know that no birth control is 100% guaranteed. Therefore, we know what we risk when we engage in the "activities" that make babies. If we gamble, whatever the stakes, and we lose, then we have a consequence to live with... Not kill to avoid. The CHOICES come BEFORE the pregnancy, not after. But that is just my one opinion, and I realize that many people see it differently. Apparently most do, cause abortion has won the fight for decades now. Guess I am a dinosaur, but I yam what I yam, I reckon.
