McCain's Senior Moment?: picking Sarah "Barracuda" Palin.
Thursday afternoon, Heart e-mailed out a statement regarding vice-presidential candidate Sarah "Barracuda" Palin's use of their similarly monikered song at the Republican National Convention:
"The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission," it read. "We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored."
But after McCain finished his speech accepting the GOP's presidential nomination tonight, Palin joined him on stage, and the song was used again: Heart's "Barracuda" played as balloons fell. With that elephant in the room, Heart's Nancy Wilson felt compelled to personally respond.
"I think it's completely unfair to be so misrepresented," she said in a phone call to EW.com after the speech. "I feel completely f---ed over." She and sister Ann Wilson then e-mailed the following exclusive statement:
"Sarah Palin's views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song 'Barracuda' no longer be used to promote her image.
The song 'Barracuda' was written in the late 70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The 'barracuda' represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there's irony in Republican strategists' choice to make use of it there."

The song is about the suppression of women yet Heart objects to it being used as a celebration of a woman elevated above that suppression.
Very similar to the reaction of the National Organization of (Liberal) Women's response to the Palin selection.
Hypocrisy reigns supreme on the left.
Isn't it ironic.

Good for Ann and Nancy. They have always shown a lot of class, and this statement form them is no different. They aren't the first artists to have their work hijacked and misused by McSame and his band of truth-twisters.

They no longer own the copywrite to the music?
The Burlington Free Press reports today that Palin's church has initiated a 'pray the gay away' campaign.
Irony? How about wishing Hoover were still alive and in power . . .

It IS ironic that the NEOCONS think they can sieze the property rights of an artist and use it to their advantage when the artist pointedly asks them NOT to do so. But then...
"Noblesse Oblige"!
Indeed you can usually tell when the concepts of democracy and citizenship are weakening. There is an increase in the role of charity and in the worship of volunteerism. These represent the élite citizen's imitation of noblesse oblige; that is, of pretending to be aristocrats or oligarchs, as opposed to being citizens." — John Ralston Saul

That only means some of the rich are NOT "NEOCON focused" on depriving others of their due.
