I can't agree more with Kevin Thompson when he says, "The best way to stand out of the crowd is to be willing to go the extra mile. It does not matter if the job is part time or punch the clock, what does matter is your attitude when doing the job."
I work in Human Resources for one of Missouri's largest employers. I conduct interviews for salaried and non salaried positions every week. From my point of view, energy and enthusiasm are the number one qualities that knock my socks off. Don't come in apologetic and don't come in as if the world owes you something. Come in like you are loving life and are excited about something.
Cheers to all,

Stop waiting for the first call from a potentiel employer. Call them first!
Also, go in person to hand in a resume or application. See if you can briefly talk to the manager, HR staff or someone in the hiring dept. Smile! Ask questions. Be friendly. Thank them for their time.
Great advice Richard. Also be persistant.
