I believe you are on to something there, sailordog. We have so much and others have so little. It just is not fair!

MilT, hope you have a very happy anniversary celebration. And just in case you're interested,Godiva actually makes FABULOUS Hanukkah gelt wrapped in gold foil and all. It's the kind of stuff I never would have wasted on the kids. Now that we're empty nest grown ups, we can indulge.

I'm also married to a Christmas hater, and to make it more complicated, he's Jewish and I'm a convert. I could have (and perhaps should have) given up Christmas, but I refused. Our family celebration was largely secular, and for my part, the more parties, the better.
We celebrate Hanukkah, but with latkes, dreidles, and candles--not as a faux Christmas. Our Christmas isn't over the top--we do some modest present giving, some charitable donations, some great dinners, and have a good time. My Christmas hater likes Christmas our style, even though he wouldn't admit it.

I kinda understand where you are here. I have two adult daughters who live on their own and I have a grand daughter which this is her first real Christmas. When I lost my mother back in 99' it devastated me because I knew the family would become distant. I have 7 siblings 4 brothers and 3 sisters I am the fouth child. We all have children of our own. After my mom died I was the one trying to keep the family holiday traditions going but to no avale no one really worked with me in it. so I began to do my own with my own children, but since they have moved out and on with their lives they too have become distant doing their own thing. I see them for the holidays but only for a few hours and then their off to friends and doing what they do. We all knew that one day our children would grow up and leave the nest but when reality hits its different. But my husband and I have learned to be thankful for the times with family and have since learned to enjoy moments together no matter what.
