When I train to lead and tie I always start in the round pen. With the halter onand a leadrope attached I gently pull on the rope with probably 10 lbs of pressure and hold. As soon as the horse releases ANY of the pressure, by moving toward you, I release ALL the pressure and reward the horse with a quick pat. The key is to release all the pressure when the horse moves toward you. 100-200 times actually goes by in only 10-20 mins. Soon the horse will want to give to the pressure of the rope on its poll. Then I rap the rope around the rail of the round pen,as if tied but NOT tied. I gently pull like before and release when the horse moves toward the rail. If the horse pulls back let the rope slide through you hands with slight pessure until the horse stops, then try again. Sonn the horse won't pull back at all. NOTE: it's ok for the horse to pull all the way back and away from you, that's why we're in the round pen, just calmly start over. I learned this techneque from John Lyons. It looks like you are getting some good advice. However, I would let the horse know that she has done good with a rub rather them a pat, but that's my thinking.

I'm working with a 4 y/o Mustang/Quarterhorse with plenty of trust issues. Today he finaly let me rub on him.

Progress is slow, but it's still progress.

Hi , I agree w/ everything that is being said ....watch some videos on training . If you have a horse person local who can give you pointers or watch what you are doing ...that always helps .when you can see what they are trying to say or help w/ problems that arise . Ask around for local riding clubs or Rescue groups ....Have fun
