Congrats Rona,

Like a boat, the two happiest days are when you buy and when you sell! I could never understand this...

Home is where your hat is................

I moved to a condo awhile ago. It can give you the freedom to travel and not worry about yard work or shoveling snow. What is the goal of the next 10 years of your life. The upkeep of a home is time consuming.

It is a buyers market. Take your time and enjoy the ride.

I didn't wait for retirement to make this particular change. Last summer we sent our only child off to college, sold the house we'd called home for 11 years and moved to a rental in another town. Though I have teeny guilt pangs for thoroughly uprooting the kid, she's adjusting well and made the Dean's list her first semester. Adjusting to having somebody else in charge of the broken plumbing and snow removal? Glory, hallelujah ... no problem at all! The best part is the money balances out, and we only have to give 30 days notice to move on to whatever greener pastures come along. I feel freer than I have in 20 years.

I haven't yet let go of my condo - home for now -- but one day, I'll be getting rid of alot of my possessions and living on a boat. My boyfriend and I are both sailors, and our plan is to go sail and live for a time in the countries we will visit.

In that sense, we've brought our home with us - literally speaking - wherever we go.

Yet, I ask myself, do I sever the connection completely by selling the condo, or do I keep it and just rent it out, until maybe one day, when we return, we have a place to call home?

Were I single, I would live in an RV or on a boat. But, wife must have her nest. So, we live in a condo and have to deal with the dumbass decisions and problems of others. My Russian wife does not want a "home" with yardwork, snow shoveling and outside maintenance. Neither do I. But, I would prefer an RV or boat so I could "move on" when neighbors become a pain in the butt.

Aye lass, keep the condo if you can afford it.

Homes are a fine investment even if you never plan to return. Everyonme should have real estate in their retirement portfolio i fhtey can affor it.

Make sure you find a good property manager and let them handle it. Decades from now when you get tired of pirates and buckling your swash, the home will still be there, a giant piggybank full of money you can use however you wish.
