If you’re like me, you’ve heard of Mary Chapin Carpenter, but don’t know much about her.
Until recently, all I knew about the woman was that she was a country artist, who had a hit many years ago that I remember, albeit vaguely…..called "Down At The Twist And Shout".
A few weeks ago, as I was searching the Netflix database for something new to listen to, I happened upon her name and decided to see what was available from her.
After checking out some of the member reviews of several titles, I decided to rent her live concert performance at Wolf Trap, recorded in 1995, entitled: "Mary Chapin Carpenter - Jubilee: Live At Wolf Trap"
I was floored!
This woman has a depth I was totally unaware of, as well as being a truly gifted songwriter.
Her band is tasty and tight, her singing sweet, and, at times, quite powerful. I enjoyed it from start to finish.
Especially heartfelt and poignant is a song she wrote about she and her sister in childhood. Kind of a story-song, really.
Called "Only A Dream", it’s just Mary with a piano accompaniment.
It’s delivered with such heart and vocal beauty, I shed a tear every time I watch it (now in my personal collection).
Just wantin’ to share a good thing with my friends here.
BTW….choice of Dolby stereo or Dolby Digital 5.1 on the disc.
