I come from a large family and every year one of our neighbors would give us a bushel of navy beans. My Mom would make bean soup almost every Friday--served with toast. I cannot eat bean soup without toast now!! And that bushel of beans last most of the winter. Same with tomato soup and grilled cheese--a perfect combo and one from my childhood.

I had my first grilled cheese at age 20. But I agree, combine it with tomato soup and it's heaven.

My two fav soups are homemade: split pea made with leftover Honey Baked ham, and chicken tortilla.

One of my favorite dishes, but I marinate it for three days. Unless I think waay ahead...I don't make it.

Do you make red cabbage, too?

We marinade it for three to four days too. We made the red cabbage, hot potato salad. Once my husband made some potato dumplings.
