May I start with this? What the heck is this vine? The berries are small, probably the size of holly berries. Does anyone recognize it? I'm in Zone 8, if that helps at all.

Caro, unfortunately during this time of year here in NE nothing is sprouting out of the ground. Ask this question again in the spring and I'm sure there will be a few things I will be able to share. :)

That is an excellent suggestion, Caro; and might I add a little bit of extra request?

If you are seeking information about a particular plant, DO NOT use the local common name for the plant. Photos would be much more useful for correctly identifying your plant. The same common name may be used from one coast to the other for over a dozen totally different plants.

Add to that : if you know the botanical (Latin) name for a plant you are discussing, please use it. There is absolutely NO way that we couldn't be talking about the same plant if you use the correct botanical name to do so.

What say you all to that?

Hear, hear, I say. I have discovered that many of the terms taught to me by my grandfather in south Louisiana do not translate here in the piedmont of North Carolina.

I confess to being totally ignorant of botanical/Latin names, but would be happy to learn them.

OK...I assume the berries are an autumn occurrence? Could you tell me a bit about the flower...better yet, do you have a photo? Petal color, structure...anything at all that would give me some clue as to what this thing looks like in most seasons. I'll give it my best shot after that. LOL!!

I believe the berries must be autumnal, because this is the first time I've noticed them. I couldn't say about the flowers, though. I have plowed through a solid wall of honeysuckle and poison ivy, only to discover this.

I'll keep an eye on it to see what else develops. Mainly I want to be careful not to get any new rashes, etc. Looks like something birds would like.
