Ed, that was such a sweet and soothing song. Thanks. You haven't heard much from me mainly because the pain in my hands makes typing difficult. Not to mention escalating back pain, etc. But who am I to complain? Yesterday I talked to a man I recognized from the soup kitchen here. When I asked about his girlfriend, He said, "You must not have heard; she died in a tent fire. (in a camp for the homeless) And it's another winter in Alaska. My situation is actually quite good. Praise God!

Hi all. It is a beautiful Friday in WI. Today I had lunch with my daughter. It is so nice to spend time with loved ones. Enjoy the weekend! Ps. Gayle you might like these verses: Proverbs 4:20-22 NIV and Jer. 30:17 NIV and Psalm 147:3

The above makes me very angry. In countries like the United States and Canada, we who have the most money and resources, should NOT have homelessness.
I work for Habitat for Humanity and we are trying to do our part, but there is not enough being done.
I am getting to the stage where I do not believe there is any excuse for this. We have let our mentally ill people just get out on the streets because we don't want to have to take care of them. They eventually get into the criminal justice system because of their bizarre behaviour. We are NOT taking care of our poor, our ill and our disadvantaged.
Just my thoughts!

I agree. I remember when they closed 99 Queen St. in Toronto, it was a major psych. ward downtown, the homeless there went up noticeably. The really sad thing is that when we have weather warnings here in Kingston, and in Toronto, these mentally ill people are often the ones that refuse to go to the shelters, or emergency warming centres, and they are sometimes found dead in the street.
We aren't better than other countries we put down for their lack of concern over poverty, and homelessness, we just hide it better, and don't think about it much. It's a shame. WE need to do something about it, however we can help.

Proverbs 1:7 the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise
wisdom and instruction. Most of the street people I've met, do not know the Lord or care to. It is easier to continue living a sinful, and destructive lifestyle. If I could only save ONE person from their dark existence, maybe they could help spread the word. Will you pray with me? Thanks to those who have responded to my comment. God bless you!

Arlene, sharing God's love wherever you go dealing with the homeless is an awesome ministry, as well as Lois' work with Habitat For Humanity, Gayle's awareness of basic needs for Canada's homeless also and onfire's church's street ministry.
Truthfully, shelter is a basic need. God has been a shelter for us in even more than conventional ways!
May we pray and remember those that live without a home, while we sit in the warmth and convenience of ours, and be mindful of the upcoming winter where the harshness of climate will take many lives.
Arlene, this morning prayers have been said for your pain relief, on another thread I saw a prayer request on behalf of your daughter and have prayed for her, your upcoming move, and for the Lord to use you in delivering many people from their dark existence.
God bless our home and our hearts as we share what we do have with others. Amen

Editor you are indeed a ray of sunshine in this sometimes cloudy life. Hugs to you and yours. And others who commented, I do pray that we continue to do the Lords' will, in a way that would bring more people to their true home. Oh guess what? My home this winter will be in Albuquerque, NM. Yes, I'm going back to Alaska...Call me crazy but I feel that this is where my calling originated, so I will answer. Some go to Africa, but there is also a need for domestic missionaries. Will you share the love of Jesus?
