Fascinating reading... the words white trash are an Americanism so aren't ever used here in Australia unless the person is posturing. Hillbilly isn't a term used here either, but people here recognize it as either a scary term or an imbreeding term due to the way hillbillies are stereotyped in American films. The film Deliverance didn't help much either.

In my 'neck of the woods' a redneck is used as a derogatory term for a person who is most likely racist, rough, violent, bigoted, nationalistic, and probably owns a gun and uses it. Remember in Australia we don't have the same constitutional 'right to bear arms' or guns-are-necessarily mentality.

White trash can fall under that,as well as having filthy kids and of course,my daughter is thought of as white trash because she has biracial children.

I didn't name names,but I can tell you,it's been said to her and not just her,woman like her.And comments made to me in such places as the laundromat,where people talk to me about certain things,because I'm white and assume I agree.

I know that.She recently had an argument with a friend who's father chimed in "you were raised right,look at you with a black man."

With my grandchildren right there.

She has gotten it from other races as well.

We get the "looks" many times thru the yrs.

I'm very tired.I just know that all my granchildren lived together for 2 yrs,sharing a home.Love each other like siblings,not just cousins.

I want them to embrace all of who they are.
