Spiritual and Spirituality

Spiritual and Spirituality :These words can have four very accurate, yet separate, distinct meanings.

I am suggesting, for the sake of clarity in this forum, that we first define the way in which we are using these words, so that we may grow together in our conversations. Then, in that clarity, new ideas and solutions for the evolution of consciousness in humanity may emerge.

Here are four definitions of the word 'spiritual'

1. A peak experience (a spiritual experience)

2. A particular attitude (a spiritual attitude)

3. A particular line of personal development (a specific line of spiritual development)

4. The top of any line of development (for instance, a performance by a world-renowned piano soloist can be seen and experiences as 'spiritual').

I would love to hear your ideas on this.

Hi Mick,

I am glad you re-posted this from the other group. I got the impresssion that many people like to keep this word vague... it is almost as if when they aer talking about 'spiritual' matters, that there is an unconscious wish to remain lost to the conditioned mind. What do you think?

Hi Paul,

Pretty much. If 'you' and 'I' wish to make progress in mutual understanding, then 'we' have to be clear about which definition of spiritual or spirituality we are speaking of. Otherwise, 'we' will tend to go in grand cirles without knowing that is what is occurring.

Hi Mick,

In leading a study group last winter, I came to the suspicion that "spiritual" refers to our meaning-making capacity, which is closely tied to the establishment and maintenance of a "world." With respect to your four definitions, a "spiritual" experience would be one that is supremely meaningful; the particular attitude that we call "spiritual" would be an orientation to events in terms of their widest possible meanings; that which we foster in "spiritual" development would be our own capacity to create and sustain meaning; and #4 (which seems very similar to #1) would see "spiritual" as the point of intersection with some transcendent source of meaning and value.

What do you think?

good day mick, yes that we are spiritual beings momentarily living a human existence.that once we remove the duality of ego,we can get embrace our spiritualty in every form of who we consciously "choose" to be.......... spirit is from latin espirit meaning lifes breath.... that eternal flame that burns with in the essence of self.....

Hi WordNerd,

I will accept your reference to meaning-making capacity and up you one. What if mutual clarity on which of these definitions we are sharing is what allows us to consciousuly co-create the future? What if the only way you and I and others can come together in a context that is beyond conditioning (at least for a short time) is to remove that conditioning in regard to the ways in which we use this word together. If you and I have no mutual clarity there is no 'we'.

Please tell me more about your study group.

What if life is a process and now you are away of this tour as a sentient being. The responsibility of the future of human development (at the level of consciousness and beyond) is 'our' responsibility. Can 'we' agree on that?

Right now in this present time "we" most

undoubtedly must undertake a huge responsibility of the future course of mankind.

"this present time stands for all time|"

change can come only when "we" agee apon it.

Life is most definitely a process, a begining, an ending.

it is what we as individuals as a whole

[oneness] do to elevate our state of beings.

we pass only here once and that is in the blink of an eye...a flicker of light...

the energy that expounds from self

the creativity of our creation that we

possess the gift to co-create our destinies.

we have been given this world as a gift

think of it as every thing we ever needed

is here in abundance for "all"

we are supposed to be the caretakers of this

splendor,the guardians.

our selfishness & childishishness consumed

with materialistic greed [our perceived illusion of the meaning of abundance]

i my self had started my life in search of

forfillment but applied it in all the wrong

directions....after all i acquired,

material possessions in abundance, i was left with the feeling of emptiness.

hopelessness and dispair set in......

my perceived illusion on life was far from

reality,and anything that is not real

********* disapates*****************

and from hopelessness came hope...

He Opens Peoples Eyes....

an miracle of correction had occurred

no longer had i seen through my eyes...

but with in the vastness of the confines of

"true self|"...vision from the heart...

that "we " together can restore this world

to be...the kingdom of heaven on earth..

this must be responsively collectively done

unconditionaly from the heart...

we give that of us so sacred for all to follow receive...this is the way of loving kindness...we all possess this with in.

this is my purpose, this is why i seek all

that are like minded...

Joy is the outcome,action is the word

and let peace,joy& happiness abide in you
