Sorry- way late to the game here. I saw the last three female skaters (and I didn't know any of them! argh) and I liked ...
I couldn't agree with you more about the Miss America. I had been hoping that Miss Utah (she served in Afghanastan for 18 months) would go farther. She was FABULOUS. The one that won was as average as you get, not the most intellegent, not the prettiest, not the . . . anythingest. Once they got down to the top 10 I was SOOOOO all about Miss Washington. She was funny, personable, intellegent, 'current', she was great . . . I was livid that she was only given 2nd runner up. I may just have to stop watching if this chick they have in there now is what they think of as the 'New Look' for Miss America.
As for the Nationals, Marai - the gold medalist - was really great. I also liked Caroline Zhang (she finished fourth). They're SO young, but they have great potential for the Olympics if they develop their poise and mature a bit. I was surprised - pleasantly - by Rachel Flatt and Ashley Wagner (2nd and 3rd place). It will be interesting over the next 2 years to see who truly rises to the top.

Here are my favorite Olympic performances: Peggy Fleming (although I was a mere tot), Janet Lynn, unless I'm confusing her perfect score with another competition and Oksana Baiul (sp). And, of course, Torvill and Dean.
Hit me with yours.

OMG . . . . are you a sister that my mother never told me about? I LOVED Peggy Fleming and Janet Lynn. I wanted to BE Peggy Fleming!!! I think, though, that the perfect score was to dorothy Hamill - she received a 6.0 for her artistic presentation when she competed in Innsbruck. Seriously, I remember that as plainly as if it happened yesterday. (Anyone else have the Hamill Haircut? I sure did!). But Janet Lynn was one of the best free skaters EVER. Her compulsories sucked, but she was one of the first women to land a triple jump in competition!!! She forever changed the sport!
There will never be anyone like Torvill and Dean! No one will ever be able to top their Bolero!!!
My current favorite Dance pair is Belbin and Augusto, they aren't T and D, but they're pretty amazing to watch.
And for pairs . . . I doubt we will EVER again see a pair that has the connection and passion on the ice that Gordeeva and Grinkov had. Although, Underhill and Martini had some programs that practically melted the ice. There were times I felt almost as if I should avert my eyes. lol.

Sometimes, when I can't sleep, I design my long program in my head - music, jump sequence, costume/hair/makeup. I've "competed" many times.
I was also on NY FAN radio adding my two cents about the Russian/ Canadian Olympic scoring controversy. No one I knew heard me, but It killed the guys that I got on immediately when they'd been trying for months or years. Advantage: women.

Finally watched the Nationals!
I felt so sorry for Kimmie Meissner -- all washed up at 18. I couldn't really get excited about Mirai Nagasu, but I'm not sure why -- she did a great job and certainly has the artistry. I've always loved Alissa Czisny, but she seems to have confidence problems and now she's over the hill.
Bizarre turn of events in the men's competition. I was actually rooting for Johnny Weir, although I don't know why because I don't really like him.
Belbin and Agosto rocked, as did Davis and White.
McLaughlin and Brubaker were terrific and have a bright future. I couldn't believe the complete inappropriateness of John Baldwin proposing after their program. He is such a jerk and narcissist. I can't imagine why she said yes unless she felt she had to under the circumstances. Maybe that's why he did it then.
