What's got me riled up

The lack of honor and respect is getting me recently. I don't know how many folks saw the YouTube video of the marine hurling a small puppy over the cliff in Iraq. Initially, I was outraged by the shear cruelty of this individual and the pathetic responses of others around him. While I drew up an email to the spokesman for the Marine base where this individual is allegedly from, it dawned on me that this person was the antithesis of what my career-military father taught me about duty, honor, and respect.

The blatant disregard for innocent life is one thing, and it is appalling. But the outright stupidity of this man is truly astonishing. Here is a man with whom other soldiers must place their trust and lives. To demonstrate a complete lack of good judgment and destroy life unnecessarily, and then have it recorded and transmitted for the world to see takes on a new dimension of idiocy.

As the war continues on and support for it wanes here and aboard, moments like this reflect so poorly on all of our troops.

If this soldier had honor, I believe he wouldn't have done something so...so negative.

Wasn't there a day when soldiers were courtmartialed for being stupid?

Kaybee, I agree with you. I have heard about this video and can not bring myself to view it.

What can be in this person's mindset? What would make someone think that an action like this would be acceptable? It is truly clear to me that this person has issues long before he arrived there. What's he gonna do when he returns? He has got to know that many people have seen this.

But what's more horrifying is what may he have done off camera? I'm sure that this is not his first offense and certainly will not be his last. Unless he is reprimanded for his actions. They say that the mind of killers usually show themselves with killing of animals from the start.

I pray for him and the people that think that this is funny, compelling video. His family must be embarrassed to say the least.

There are so many of our men and women abroad who are fighting and dying over there to free people from this type of tyranny. Cruelty and humor do not go hand in hand.

Truly sick.
