I Believe the reason for miscommunications is that men try to think in logical ways while women use the emotion for their thought processes. Recently, I read something to the fact that was shared in a Christian site, men's minds were like a block and women minds are like spaghetti. I know when I say this that I will have to defend this. Men think in compartments, while women use all the strands to develop their thinking. I believe if men would allow themselves to use some emotion and women were trying to see in compartments thinking we could learn to communicate. The biggest drawback to communicating is the lack of listening. When we learn to listen, we may then begin to communicate effectively.

I agree the thought basis is primarily different for the genders. I also agree listening skills have so diminished with the daily noise pollution of electronics that few really have the art of being a listener any more. I heard a pastor describe the difference between men and woman as a man is like a computer only knowing one language. A woman is like radar and seeps everything. I liked it!

My husband and I are attending a 12 week couples class that has a lot to do with just this topic. The class is actually taught with men on one side of the room and women on the other. This way, the men can communicate in the best way for them, the women likewise. Men are logical and don't really care or consider the emotional stuff if left to their own kind. However, men do need to understand that when dealing with women; emotions, posture, and tone of voice will all matter as well as words used. Women can and do communicate on all these levels. That being said, it is our job, when dealing with our men, to understand that not everything they say is an attack or a cause for concern. Men say what they mean with no hidden agenda, no confusion of tone or posture meant (usually...there are always exceptions to everything.)

Pastor says that men speak and hear "blue" and women speak and hear "pink." Hopefully, by the end of this class, my husband and I will be enjoying many years of "purple" communication!

Loved it, K. I do take it as attacks, and I do look at body language. I do have to quit think my communication skills are superior. That spells tie dye and not the blending color "purple" as you so aptly put it. I am a work in progress for sure.
