Let's hope this soap opera season indeed represents the opening act in an epic philosophical change at Deadskins Park. The model exists in New England. Bill Belichick has zero tolerance for divas. Sure, Brady and a couple other stars make big bucks. But, the Patriots consistently win with their supporting cast of cast-offs and modest draft picks. (Note: New England entered the draft with a huge void at tight end last spring. It loomed as a glaring weakness. Check how that has worked out for the Patriots.) Football, thankfully, remains a game in which success depends upon teamwork, preparation, discipline and some luck in avoiding injuries. The Deadskins' win at Jacksonville provided a glimpse of how that could work for the Largo bunch. The amount of physical talent available far exceeds the NFL roster spots available. Find the right QB for the system. Keep your draft picks. Demand buy-in from those on the payroll, prepare, study, coach like crazy and rebuild.

I don't think Clinton Portis can be a featured back for 16 games ever again. I believe his body will continue to betray him. He's hitting 30 and has taken a pounding over his career. There is no way the team can pay him $8 mil next year, thats insane. I like Portis and how hard he plays when he's on the field, but an aging, injury prone, and overpaid RB is not the path back to the playoffs!
