Comfort me

I'm feeling a tiny bit sick. Not throwing up sick or can't get out of bed sick, but I just don't feel like playing rugby today.

When I feel like this, sometimes certain foods make me feel better. There are times when I'd turn down chicken cordon bleu and the opera in favor of grilled cheese, tomato soup and an old black and white movie. This is one of those days.

When my kids felt bad, I used to give them "bear tea" and macaroni and cheese. "Bear tea" is the Celestial Seasonings tea called 'Sleepy time herb tea'. It has a little picture of a bear in a nightshirt on the package and I think that just looking at that picture of the little sleepy bear holding his candle did as much for my kids as the tea itself.

My sister started a tradition of buying up all the tabloids from the supermarket check-out lines and bringing them to me when I felt under the weather. She knew this makes me laugh. There's just something about two headed alien babies being born to celebrity parents and secretly confined in a foot locker for twelve years that just perks up my mood.

Today, I am in need of comfort. If you lived next door to me, what would you bring me...or if you weren't feeling well, what should I bring you?

I would bring you some jasmine peach tea and a knitted afghan to stay warm. And I'd bring you movies to watch - "Shirley Valentine" and "Eat Drink Man Woman," because the second one would help your appetite come back.

And I'd bake banana bread at your house so you'd get the smell AND the bread.

I would bring you some warm snickerdoodle cookies to go with your sleepy time tea.

Feel better, Pru.

Pru, I would rent a moon walk and bring it to your property. It would catch your attention just to see it being inflated. Hopefully it would remind you of the power to rebound from flat to fluffy.

I would then take off my shoes, and you would laugh at the ugliest feet (according to my DH) that you have ever seen. Once you understand that I don't let the public see them, and I am only cheering you up that things could be worse if you got stuck with these for a lifetime.

I would go into the moonwalk and make a perfect fool of myself for you. Sound affects included---plenty of laughter. Perhaps, you might feel adventuresome and spunky enough for a few moments to venture in and join me. If you do not want to, I would come out and grab my bottle of bubbles and we would do that. I never remember a time that bubbles did not give me a lift. Simple soul that I am, if these things did not work, I would come back the next day with a whole entire other routine of the little pleasures in life I have experienced and try to share them with you.

O.K., not ecstatically happier, but no worse off from my visit.

Just to know that I actually emerged from my little cabin to reach you might be the boost you needed.

Snickerdoodles. Mmmmm. Those bring back nice childhood memories. My sister and I used to make those and only cook half of them.

Ha! Just picturing that in my mind does wonders! Now, I have to see your feet!! What is so hideous about them? Don't tell me the second toe is longer than the first....so is mine.

Oh my! Oh my! Oh my!

Now THAT is true and funny.

All of my family from my Mother's side. Each baby that is born into the family---we don't count fingers right off.
