The New England coach was fined the NFL maximum of $500,000 Thursday and the Patriots were ordered to pay $250,000 for stealing an opponent's defensive signals, via video camera. League Commissioner Roger Goodell also took away a first-round draft pick as a penalty -- the for the first time in NFL history. What do you think? Does this tarnish the New England Patriots dynasty? With Belichick directing the show, the Patriots won NFL championships after the 2001, 2003 and 2004 seasons. But how often did he bend the rules, cross the line or swindle an opponent en route to those titles?  Cheater! 11 Comments

The unfortunate part of all this is precisely that it does tarnish the accomplishments of everybody on that team. They play together so well as a team, it's a shame to think that any part of their success has come from such antics. It will be most interesting to see how they react -- do they rally as a team and do great things the rest of this season? Or do they fall apart in acrimony and finger-pointing like so many other pro sports teams do? The New England coach was fin... I agree with Rex, it does tarnish everyone, due to the arrogance of Belichick. Everyone from the Owner to the Towel Boy will have their ethics questioned. Consensus over at Sports Illustrated is that they got off light on the punishment and I would agree. And it most definitely does call into question their Super Bowl wins. Too true! All the puzzle pieces begin to fit together much better now. At least with Al Davis, you know he's crazier than a June bug on a string and you know what you're getting.
