What's your eco-sin?

Seems like most of us are trying to do our part to help the environment, even if in very small ways. Yet, like me, I think many of us have a eco-sin or two to get off our chests.

Mine is not using my cloth grocery bag whenever I go to the store, resulting in more landfill. Or not turning off my computer moniter at night.

How about you? Taking too long of a shower? Buying bottled water?

Aside from driving my gas guzzling SUV (but it's not a Hummer!) I sometimes throw the gum I'm chewing out the window... I know... I'm hanging my head in shame.

OK time to fess up I suppose.

There are only two of us in this empty nest and we have two modest cars. One gets 34 mpg and the other gets 43mpg.

I also have two classic cars but neither have been out of the garage this year so far or the whole of last year.

There is no leaded petrol these days in the UK and the additives don't seem to work too well, but they are really museum pieces - a 1952 Bentley S1 and a 1935 Jaguar - the first model to have the leaping Jaguar as an adornment - which is why it is a collectors item.

I refuse to use plastic bags frrom the convenience store and when I bought a new mouse for the PC recently, I ripped it open on the check out counter and gave all the packaging back to the startled clerk, keeping only the instruction sheet, telling him I only wanted a mouse not a rabbit hutch.

I planted 5 trees last year. Two ginko, Two magnolia, and a red maple.

Oh wait, make that 6. Two red maples but of different variations.

That's my sin since research says in temperate zones grasslands do more good than trees at fighting global warming.

It may have become the penance of choice for the environmentally conscious individual, but planting trees to offset carbon emissions could contribute to global warming if they are planted outside the tropics, scientists believe. They argue that most forests do not have any overall effect on global temperature but, by the end of the century, forests in the mid and high latitudes could make their parts of the world more than 3C warmer than would have occurred if the trees did not exist. Great question:

TheInquiringEye does NOT recycle, yet still makes a big fuss about driving a tiny little Miata to save fuel.

There is no question in my mind that I am far from being as conservation conscious as I could and/or should be but I am not a real energy hog either I don't think, so?????? The United States in general, as you probably know, consumes the vast majority per capita of oil and energy but China and India catch up quickly and given their respective populations ....???? France's electricity is largely nuclear but that has its own set of problems. One good point is every obstacle humans have encountered they also have overcome and I have faith that energy supplies and the environment will be resolved too! Great minds work behind the scenes where most of us are unaware!

I fully believe that protecting and preserving a healthy ecosystem is essential for the longevity of all biological or natural systems on this planet.

Yet, despite my understandings and knowledge of actual and impending global disasters, I strangely remain uncommitted toward being properly eco-conscious.
