Why can't I just be me?

I come from a VERY large family w/ numerous offspring and I find myself in deeper conversations w/ my nieces (generally my age or near it) than I do w/ my siblings (who are all older than me). One great conversation we had was, one of them had a 'guy' friend who asked her "What do women want, what should I do to attract them to me". So she posed the question to us gals. Responses were varied, but typical, such as "nice teeth, sense of humor, dresses well, good hygiene"... you've heard them all before. After reading all their responses, I finally responded with what I like in a man.

1) comfortable with himself

2) honesty

3) respect for himself and others

4) financially secure/stable

5) comfortable in whatever he's wearing (from boxers to tux)

6) treats me with respect

7) encourages my dreams

8) allows me to have friends outside of our relationship

9) one who has a lot of male friends

and lastly...and more importantly

10) one who respects his mother

Because ultimately when it comes down to it, he'll treat you like he treats his mother.

GingerO, this is a great list and certainly thought-provoking. I love every item on your list and would add only one: MUST HAVE A GOOD SENSE OF HUMOR. Given all the things that happen in relationships, you have to laugh. My husband is hilarious....and it often saves the day for us.

I agree with most of these and would add one - shares my values. It makes hard decision making (and there are many hard decisions to make) a bit easier. On the more superficial side, I would add good taste in jewelry :-)

Thanks, I agree, and if they don't have a good sense of humor, at least the ability to communicate on all levels, because sometimes the silence can be deafening.
