I confess I am out here trying to mobilize the masses. We really have to face the fact that George Bush has committed many, many impeachable offenses. It is not good enough to simply bide our time and wait for his term to end. He has months left. Do you know how much more damage he can do in the time he has left?
This is a president who has openly lied to justify invading a sovereign nation purely for political reasons. Now, I understand that hoodwinked everyone into thinking we were in danger from Iraq, but we now know that that was a lie. In fact, I am trying to find just one truth in the myriad of lies this administration has told. The fact is that General Patraeus admitted we went there to protect American assets. Read: OIL.
This is a president who just recently admitted that he himself authorized torture as an interrogation technique. And he did it proudly, I might add.
This is a president whose administration outed a covert CIA operative in retaliation for her husband disputing the veracity of pre-Iraq war intelligence about the purchase of yellowcake uranium from Niger. There is even evidence now that Bush ordered this himself. In any other country, even those we like to think of as backwards compared to us, that would be considered TREASON.
Richard Nixon was impeached for illegal wiretapping and subsequently covering it up. Bill Clinton was impeached for having illicit sex with an intern and then lying to a grand jury. Help me here. George Bush has wiretapped illegally. George Bush has lied to Congress and the American people. George Bush (or the those in the highest echelons of his administration) has outed a CIA operative. George Bush has illegally invaded a sovereign country for political purposes. George Bush has obstructed the investigation into 9-11, and then he lied to the bipartisan 9-11 commission. SHOULDN'T THIS GUY BE IMPEACHED, PEOPLE?
The wimps in Congress give the same excuse every time I write them: We would not be able to complete the process in the time he has left in his term. The impeachment process must happen regardless of that. If it does not happen, we will rightfully be seen as a pathetic excuse for a democracy. This is not what our forefathers intended.
Theodore Roosevelt had it right when he said, "Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by the president or any other public official." The majority of what George Bush has done, particularly in his second term, has gone against either ever law or value held by this country. He must go so that we can open up the doors and see for real what this administration has done. This might be painful, but it is the only way to ensure it will not happen again.
