A new study suggests it may be because you get more - or less - than 7-9 hours sleep a night.

USA Today reports sleeping too little may make us fat because "Scientists have found that sleep deprivation increases levels of a hunger hormone and decreases levels of a hormone that makes you feel full."

Funny. I figured out as a young teenager that lack of sleep made me want to chow down the next day. I can't believe the scientists are only discovering it now!

So....I can't sleep. I go to bed and wake up every hour until it's finally 4 a.m. and I get up. Shall I take a sleeping pill? Are we talking about drugged sleep or natural sleep. I should go to the link. I've been anticipating needing less sleep as I age. That's another study isn't it. Shall I tell you why I think people are fat? They eat too much.

I would think that laying down and sleeping would slow your metabolism and make you fat. Now sleeping makes you thin and staying awake makes you fat. All staying awake? What if your wiggling while your awake and the next day you decide you're not going to overeat.

These studies suck.

A new study that I just did as I sat here suggests that people only take from study result information exactly what they can absorb in a quick skim of a short paragraph and then they draw their own conclusions based on their self esteem or their ability to spot b.s...........

good night

so, i take it that you are not fat because non-fat people seem to make the comments that you do. honey, there are many factors in why folks are fat and yes, eating too much is one but most fat people eat the same way skinny folks do it is just they eat at the wrong times and do not get enought exercise and I know, because I am a fat girl! I work in the evening at a casino and guess what I do all night on breaks, eat and when it is my off days, I am eating at night because I sleep all day! Let me rephrase that when I wake up, I am not hungry...at break, I eat something, then 2 1/2 hours later is lunch and then 2 hours later is break, again. I am eating the wrong things that time of the night to keep my butt awake! Well, that's it in a nut!

S'Ok, SD. You drink, I'll smoke. That we we keep the science on target ;)

Seriously, there are some guided visualizations around TBD somewhere. They might help you sleep if someone can find them.

And, if you need to relax, this might giggle you enough to get some sleep: http://www.i-am-bored.com/bored_link.cfm?link_id=6509

Sleep deprivation has also been suggested as a risk factor for diabetes. 60 Minutes about a month back.
