There is a strong belief among many that President Bush and his administration lied about Iraq having WMD as a pretense for launching the war in Iraq. The objective of this thread is to take a closer look at whether this is true or not.
Whether you agree with the war or not is not the purpose of this thread. If you choose to participate in this thread I ask you to see the following interview which was broadcast on 60 minutes in March. If you haven't seen it already, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSqnPMmgkI0&feature=related. If that link doesn't work you can google the interview by typing "60 minutes interview with Saddam's interrogator".
FBI agent George Piro spent 7 months interrogating Saddam. According to Mr. Piro the war is in many ways a result of gross miscalculations by both Saddam and President Bush. Saddam purposely mislead the world about Iraq's WMD program to guard against attack from Iran. Saddam did not believe that the US would attack as we did. He also knew that Iraq could never defeat the US military and had prepared for a "secret war".
Like many political disagreements there were many misunderstandings that contributed to decisions made on both sides. This interview may not change your feelings about the war itself, however, it may help understand the role that WMD played in the decision to go to war.
