Did Bush lie about the WMD?

There is a strong belief among many that President Bush and his administration lied about Iraq having WMD as a pretense for launching the war in Iraq. The objective of this thread is to take a closer look at whether this is true or not.

Whether you agree with the war or not is not the purpose of this thread. If you choose to participate in this thread I ask you to see the following interview which was broadcast on 60 minutes in March. If you haven't seen it already, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSqnPMmgkI0&feature=related. If that link doesn't work you can google the interview by typing "60 minutes interview with Saddam's interrogator".

FBI agent George Piro spent 7 months interrogating Saddam. According to Mr. Piro the war is in many ways a result of gross miscalculations by both Saddam and President Bush. Saddam purposely mislead the world about Iraq's WMD program to guard against attack from Iran. Saddam did not believe that the US would attack as we did. He also knew that Iraq could never defeat the US military and had prepared for a "secret war".

Like many political disagreements there were many misunderstandings that contributed to decisions made on both sides. This interview may not change your feelings about the war itself, however, it may help understand the role that WMD played in the decision to go to war.

I never thought Bush lied. But II have always said if he did, that was an impeachable offense. The intelligence information was faulty. As far as I know, Congress got the same briefing. They authorized the invasion. So for the critics who call it George Bush's war, I say bullshit, it's just as much my war as any other voting American.

What I learned from the 60 Minutes interview is that is the second war. Because of that, what continues to happen are not random acts of violence, means that the second war needs to be won, not walked away from..

Thank you for a good post.

I believe somebody lied. I don't believe Bush is capable of coming up with such a plan to purposely lead the US into another war when we were already engaged (with reason) in Afghanistan. I DO believe that there were high ranking NEOCONS who steered

Bush into believing it was the thing to do. Major players in the rebuilding of Iraq include Haliburton. I believe it was about profiteering. Bush's "cowboy mentality" was used to lead him to believe we had to go to war. I definitely do not believe Colin Powell lied. I perceive Bush as a "puppet" bought and paid for. There's money to be made and it will cost the US in a big way. The US public WILL pay and pay. Somebody will get very rich.

I have a doubt if Bush is smart enough to lie. His handlers, Dick the TinMan, all those Neo-Con idiots who thought they were such great military geniuses because they played "Stratego" in prep school or whatever, and Rumsfailed and his heavy hand in the kitchen cooking the "inteelligence", yeah, they probably lied.

And as for the congress voting for this debacle, they were fed the same bogus bullshit We The Sheeple were.

As for "winning" this clusterfuck, excuse me, but which objective are we fighting for THIS week? The stated goal of this operation has changed more times in the last 5 years than the guitarist Prince has changed names.

We got lied to, lied to in the worst way, and we're STILL getting lied to. I'm going to be totally pissed if this whole bunch gets to skate off into retirement, lobbyist-hood, and book deals and lecture tours Scot-Free come January.

Johnny

As for lecture deals, big bucks and skating off unpunished into retirement: just get ready to get pissed as that is precisely what will happen. Too many people just dont want to believe that their leaders can be so corrupt. Its a hard pill to swallow.

I'm not sure what you are asking here. Did the administration say there were weapons of mass destruction - yes - they did. (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2002/10/20021007-8.html)

Did they find them? No. Were they convinced that there were such weapons? i.e Did they unknowingly lie? It seems to me to cause a war with incorrect information (without taking the cautious steps that they were urged to take at the time) is just as bad. Did others in the admin know there weren't any such weapons. There is evidence that the CIA counseled caution. Were people afraid to tell Bush things he did not want to hear? I don't think we will know this for many years and probably only on a he said, he said basis.

What is your source of information that proves that the story is BS? If there is evidence, I'd like to know about. If it's just your opinion, you know what they say about opinions.
