In Australia, a driver was fined Au$750 (about US$710) because he used a seat belt to secure a carton of beer in his car while leaving a 5-year-old child unrestrained ( http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/05/13/australia.driver.ap/index.html ).

Am I the only one here who thinks he got it right?

Don't know. But there were 2 other adults in the car sitting in the back seat. He buckled up the brew in the front seat and plopped the kid on the floor (actually the drive train hump) in the back.

Personally, I have no problem with this. I mean, babies are important and all, but you can always make another one. But we're talkin' beer here. 'Nuff said.

This guy was only thinking about the passengers. If he had gotten in an accident, the beer would have been flung all over the car and hurt someone. At least this way, after the accident, he would still have the beer when he tells the other guys "Now I need a beer!"
