I've been thinking lately about the pros and cons of being single. There are lots of fun lists out there on the internet on the pros, but I thought it might be interesting to hear ours...are the reasons (or ambivalence) about it different for boomers?

What are your reasons for actively choosing to live single?

Or if not a choice, what do you appreciate and enjoy about it?

I guess if you framed the discussion as "best things about being single for a boomer" I would say: dating without the pressure of a biological timeclock. But that's not really what you asked....

1.no husband to blame for any decisions i make

2.pure joy that's all mine when i make good ones

3.accountablity only to me when i make bad ones

4.quiet space that's all mine to do with as i please

I'm really interested in all the different aspects we deal with - this is one I had forgotten about - thanks!

Maybe we can add without the possibility of pregnancy as well, which could be a plus for both sexes.

1. No one to answer to.

2. No messes to clean up other than your own.

3. No competition for the ice cream in the freezer.

4. No pressure to do things or see people you'd rather not.

5. No weird habits to contend with.

6. No one looking askance at your weird habits.

7. No worries about: Does he love me? Is he faithful? Is he having an affair?

1) my finances

2) my food habits

3) my sleeping habits

4) my friends

5) my friends' habits

6) my living space decor

7) my housekeeping habits

8) my appearance

9) my time

10) my whims, facies and impulses

I've been thinking lately about the pros and cons of being single. There are lots of fun lists out there on the internet...

I didnt date for over three years till the start of this one and really enjoyed being single and not having to put up with anyone elses b.s. I really thought I was just going to stay single. so now turning 40 and getting engaged came as a big shock to me.

but heres a list of what i loved about it.

1. half as much laundry to do

2. no one to tell me i loaded the dishwasher wrong.

3. my money is all mine

4. no one snores or at least I dont hear it, im sleeping

5.i no longer need a remote control i can watch only one show instead of 4 at a time.

6. theres no one there to leave the seat up.

7.now that the beer is out of the fridge theres room for food.

8 if i do something really stupid no ones there to see it and tell everyone else.

9.if i put goodies in the fridge there always there when i go back for them.

10. no one messes up my checkbook but me.
