Questions that set people up.

Have you ever been asked a question about something or someone and the hair sort of stands up on the back of your neck or even worse you trust the person to start with and find out afterwards that the question was simply to set people up to pounce on them? How many of the political discussions or threads do you think are started on TBD for the purpose of pushing that person's political agenda and/or for pouncing on anyone who would venture to disagree(even if they respectfully disagree)? How many political discussions do you think are started because the person wishes to share an open-minded, exploratory dialogue regarding the election and the candidates? If you feel used by the political parties and the candidates do you then also feel used or manipulated by those who use a manipulative approach on TBD?

Conservatively, I would estimate that 90% of the TBD "Discussions" about politics, religion, and social views are initiated by people with agendas to promote. However, there are still a few actual Discussions out there which were started with the intent of generating actual discussion. Unfortunately, they are soon taken over by the agenda hogs, so I avoid them like the plague. Bottom line, though, if you're actually interested in finding such a discussion, you'll have to kiss a lot of frogs before you'll find your prince.

It is my opinion that many threads are set up for the very reasons you state. On the other hand some threads are set up for the purpose stated above and then hijacked by the same group that starts the threads which you speak of first.

Thank you Harvey and pickle for your responses. Hopefully we can see a move to having serious topics that are for the purpose of dialogue.

Pickle, Harvey and jacuin,

I have to agree with everything you typed. I have a clear and definitive view on both politics and religion. I just never share them. I have found that nobody cares. Since I have to do my own dying and my own voting, I will only share these things with myself.

Here on this site, I just wanna have fun and read views that differ from mine. It's ok for those folks to try and sway opinions about either subject. Perhaps that is what keeps the site active and fun for those that want to share, sway and argue. I rarely if ever participate as well.

Not guilty

Not even my Just For Grins question the other day. It wasn't a set up. Just somethign I found interesting and wondered if anyone else knew it.

I think people have definite and passionate opinions regarding their political beliefs--so if you happen to disagree it may be taken personally.

I do not get too involved in political threads for that reason. But I do find some of them to be interesting, sometimes humorous reading.

I do not consider myself to be an intellectual, but I think I am intelligent. Still, I enjoy the "lighter" threads and consider tbd to be a diversion, not a source of stress because someone does not care for my opinion.
