A few of my closest friends & I have been recently discussing the mission statement here at TBD. There it is, In the upper left-hand corner of your window- 'Sharing Experience to Thrive'. In my case my thoughts drifted to the question, ' Is there a practical use for this thing we call Enlightenment ? '.

The two are, in the words of my Zen ( Chan ) friends, 'Not Different'.

Does this help me answer those other two important zen questions:

What is the sound of one hand with the clap?

If a tree falls in the forest, was it ever really there?

What's not different? Sharing and enlightenment? Thriving and enlightenment? Sharing and thriving?

Some would say sharing is a step on the path to enlightenment.

Others may say one can not thrive without becoming enlightened.

Actually < Grin > Dan's is the most Zen-like answer to my original question, but ... My original question was quite serious and I would like to limit the discussion to that:

Is there a practical use, or application, for enlightenment?

It is my experience that sharing is, technically not a step on the path at all, however inter-related and additionally some who are enlightened do not thrive.

From the perspective of enlightenment sharing is most certainly indicated, if not mandated AND intimately connected to thriving. Granted. Why do you think I bring that up here & now < Smile >.

Now. Back to the question. Is there a practical use of enlightenment ( and how do we share that experience ) ?

Is there a practical use for this thing we call Enlightenment ? '.

1. to give intellectual or spiritual light to; instruct; impart knowledge to: We hope the results of our research will enlighten our colleagues.

2. Archaic. to shed light upon.

Lack of enlightenment, to me, would lead to a condition of failure to thrive mentally, emotionally, and indeed perhaps physically if one does not learn the care for one's body, etc.
