The daunting task of searching for a new job

I am finding that searching for a new job is becoming such a daunting task. I just found out today that I was the "second runner up" for a position that I was very interested in. This has occured more frequently than I would like to mention. I was the second runner up out of 100+ applicants so I should feel very good about that! I will keep on trekkin' to find the perfect job. After working for a string of start-ups it is clear to me that my #1 criteria will be a company with many years of stability, that is located close to my home, and where I can use my mulitiple talents to shine in and interesting and creative environment.

Wish me luck, and if any one has ideas of good job search venues, please send them my way! So far I have registered on Monster, HotJobs, perused CraigsList, & registered with several head hunter agencies, I can use all the suggestions that are sent my way!

In the meantime, I am contracting on the side and staying busy while the search continues...

I am also interested in thoughts of a career as a Personal Assistant, I am checking into this new career venue as well.

Thanks,

Susie :)

Check out SimplyHired.com. I really like the way they define their business: they are dedicated to the job seeker not the employere.

Susie,

According to some research I did for a book I was writing a couple years ago, most decision-makers want to see two things from the candidates they are seriously considering hiring;

1. your in-depth knowledge of their company's products/services, their industry, their competitors, etc

2. your absolute passion for being part of their company (versus your passion for being hired)

I also believe that you have to talk about your value proposition (specific ideas you have on how you can help them meet or exceed their goals). Granted, it's a lot of work. But in today's hyper-competitive job market, you have to stand out from the pack.

Regarding you becoming a Personal Assistant, I suggest you first talk to people who are currently in that position. Maybe you can "shadow" one of them for a week to see if you like it.

Good luck,

Gordon
