Fred Astair's grace. Donald O'Connor's acrobatic skills. Danny Kaye's comedy. Posted: Jun 17, 08 9:53pmI agree with Donald in this list as well. I think you identified their individual strengths very well. I have a friend who always tells me to include Frank Sinatra in this group...but I just can't. Mr. Bojangles...very cool addition to the list. Oh and scarecrow...how about Ray Bolger, your namesake? Remember that seven up commercial he did late in his life? Posted: Jun 17, 08 9:57pmRay never achieved the stardom of the others. Lots of competition back then for dancers/actors. Posted: Jun 17, 08 9:59pmi truly loved them all!!! in my next life............. Posted: Jun 17, 08 10:01pmDanny Kaye was a gem--a true entertainer and humanitarian [extensive UN work with children]. I miss his rapid-fire songs. Fred Astair routines were almost inhuman, but I'd vote Ginger Rogers. As one wag put it: "She did everything HE did, but did it backwards and in high heels" ! Hey, couldn't Sammy Davis Jr dance, too? Posted: Jun 17, 08 10:03pmCan't forget the Nicholas Brothers--Fayard & Harold. They truly revolutionized tap. I've never seen two stronger and more fearless dancers. |
