Hi. I don't have any performance arts tips, but my suggestions: In Beijing, go to the Hidden Lanes of Hutong, the ancient city alleys and take a ride on a rickshaw to the Drum tower. In Shanghai, take a day trip to Suzhou with its Grand canal, built 2400 yrs ago.

Along with touring Shanghai and Beijing, I want to explore the countryside. We'll fly to Guilin and then drive to Yangshuo, a region of terraced rice fields edging maasive limestone cliffs. We'll float along the Li River on a bamboo raft and hike in Ping An, a mountain village. You can use them when shopping at markets (the merchants will give you great deals if you can pay with American dollars). But make sure they are new bills -- they are very suspicious of old or torn bills. Posted: Jan 30, 07 9:34am![]() Definitely go to the bank before your trip and get about 100 $1 bills. I think I need a really good map! Are you using an agency to book the internal travel aspects of your trip? Posted: Jan 30, 07 9:38am![]() Hi. I quote: "The Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses are the most significant archeological excavations of the 20th century. Work is ongoing at this site, which is around 1.5 kilometers east of Emperor Qin Shi Huang's Mausoleum, Lintong County, Shaanxi province. It is a sight not to be missed by any visitor to China." What people usually miss, however, is the nearby excavation of an ancient Chinese village. It's nearly as large as the warriors dig, and even more inspiring. To see the ancient village is to realize the common root of all humanity. Such an excavation's artifacts look no different from similar anywhere else in the world. ALSO, if you're going to Xian, I heartily recommend renting a bicycle and taking your time to drive around. Very easy, most of Xian is flat, dry, and wide. Good way to get close to the people, see the real city. |
