Inheritance!

Hello! I am a new member and wanted to start a discussion on inheritance and dealing with what our family members leave behind, the good and the bad.

I just inherited a mess from my grandmother. There are all sorts of things I never knew she had. The coolest stuff I have found, by far, are these boxes of photographs and 8mm film reels. This stuff must go back to World War II. It's wild!

I don't know what to do with it all. I know I probably need to scan it and get it on a DVD or something. Some of it is pretty beat up. A friend of mine told me about a company based in Los Angeles called Life Preserver Digital Archiving. Supposedly, they are a hands on company who can scan and help organize older media and restore some of it. Has anyone heard of them? Does anyone feel the pressure to get there older photographs digitized?

I have a digital camera now and I don't even hesitate. All my photos are on my computer and an external hard drive, but what about our parent's stuff and our grandparents? What about my childhood photos? I just want to put it all on DVD and make sure I can have it forever.

Our memories are too important and the world is changing so fast. We have to make sure that our photos keep up with it.

You have a great idea there! What a great thing to do for everyone in your family. Copies can be made, and what great surprise gifts they would make! Cool!

Cogratulations on your gold mine. Yes, digitize older photos and have the 8mm film restored. From the 8mm you'll probably want some stills from them as well. One word of caution: I have read that CD's/DVD's lose quality over 10 years so I'd retain the original files.
