Yeah, my little guy decided that playing with a black and white cat might be fun...but it weren't no dang cat! HELP! The tomato juice helped but he still is a stinky lil' doggie...any suggestions? Also for the places he lays, they kind now got skunked too.

Have fun today all, and I will check back for your comments...

I have heard that this recipe works well:

1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide

¼ cup baking soda

1 teaspoon of strong liquid soap like dishwashing detergent.

mix in an open container (bucket) it will fizz. Cover the dog completely, rubbing it in. Be careful not to get it into his eyes ears or mouth. Rinse thoroughly

Poor Pooch!

After having to deal with 4 skunk attacks because my black lab just loved these little creatures a vet recommend to use Summer Eves douche.

I used a total of 10 bottles each the 3rd and 4th time and it worked very well. Apply it directly to the fur work it into the coat. For the face just use an old washcloth with the solution. Oh you have to ignore the weird smile you get when you buy that stuff in bulk.

Hi Eve! I had it happen to my dog once and tried the tomato juice as well. Didn't do enough like you said. I called my Vet and they recommended a solution called Skunk-B-Gone, I think .. it's possible I'm remembering the name wrong. Anyway, there are shampoo's made specifically for that and it worked quite well. I also used it on my furniture, it worked there, too and didn't harm the material. I bought it at my Vet's office, but I didn't need an appointment and it wasn't expensive.

All of our dogs get skunked on our rural property.

Eve, at 3:00 or 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning in darkness tomato juice works and a spray of perfume wherever they lay after I leave them indoors is what I do.

However, at a more convenient time of the day, I will mix up the Veterinarian recommended solution Happy Lass posted.

One caution on that is do not store any leftover solution as it might explode. Make up just enough to use once.

Your little guy is so sweet. I also like sunshine's recommendation, but all our boys are big ones, and frequent recipients, so I have that cost factor going on.
