Why are we all chosen by the pics we post on our profile?

I just had a goofy one put up of myself for fun...and also guess I proved a point. If the pic doesn't look great...you don't get any "hits", noone wants to be your "friend" and you get negative comments made on it.

Firstly.....aren't we all supposed to be grown ups in here? Young kids do the pic thing. They need and want that fantasy. I am seeing that older people act the same way! I thought once we get to this age that appearance really shouldn't matter. It's what is inside that matters.

I've looked around and am seeing many deceiving pictures making others think they are "hot" or whatever the current word of the day is. From my many years on the net I can tell how old many pics are, or photoshopped pics, even pics stolen from other sites. All in the name of attracting someone's eye.......Attention Ho's.

Are people still that insecure in their advanced years? Does it ever occur to anyone that you might actually meet someone that you are chatting with and might have to explain "uhhh...I need to mention this...but I don't look exactly like that pic....."

People need to keep it REAL. I know I do and it works. I am the same on here or off the net....being silly with a "ring" in my nose and posting that pic or the one I have with me standing with my dog. It's ME. I know I like ME...the real me. Yes I have met many from the net and proud to say I didn't deceive them into thinking I am some Glamour shot woman.....I am happy to be who I am....especially my goofy fun self.

To those who complained about my goofy pic...you can KMA...I don't like having shallow friends and don't WANT shallow friends. For those I made laugh...kudos...you are my friend forever...and I like you....

*end of rant* :-)

What's wrong with your picture?

I too agree about keeping it real, especially at this time in my life. I couldn't be bothered trying to spend the extra energy trying to 'impress' anyone. My pic is real...taken in March...the butterfly is symbolic for what I feel is going on for me.

The reason I don't use a picture of me is the last one taken was a year ago, and anyway my dog is cuter!

We're not.

My picture is just an icon to help people pick me out of a crowd.

I agree that people shouldn't focus on physical appearance, but that doesn't mean that we can't reflect our personalities in our profile pics. The "real you" is not what is captured by a camera! If you're goofy, put up a goofy pic. If you're freaky, put up a freaky pic.

So, ask yourself why did you take the goofy pic down if you really want to be accepted for what's inside.
