First it was Google Map's satellite views of your house. Then they drove over to your place and took a picture of the front of your house, and if your garage door was open, they got more then they were bargaining for.

Now it is http://www.zillow.com They list the estimated value of your house and everyone else on your block........and the world too!! They show an aerial view and give details. Like how many rooms, etc. But they also tell when it was last sold and for how much.

So dammit DRAW YOUR DRAPES....and think before giving everyone on the Internet and elsewhere your address.

It has been years since we had any privacy. We are now aware of how little we really have!

Well I just looked at my block in Manhattan .

An apartment is for sale or just sold (i could not tell) the price $23.8 million, on the corner of my block. Rich people live on my street!! I remember when the apartments were selling for $250,00. in 1983 and i thought you had to be insane to spend that type of money in my then marginal neighborhood (crack whores and homeless people no more)!

No info on my house.....single family home and assessed in 2003 that's all.

Their information appears to be last sale price. That makes it pretty much useless in a stable area.

It's also a matter of public record, has been since forever.

My house shows the last tax appraisal about two year ago and my yard looks very brown.

I looked at this a few months ago. It creeped me out. I was trying to figure out whose red car was parked in my driveway. Then I realized it was a friend of mine. Very wierd.

At least I'm in the middle of the pack, not the highest nor the lowest estimate. And yeah I haven't driven that silver Saturn for 2 years since it got totaled in a car accident. That was a bit of a teary eyed moment to see it. I loved that car. It wasn't it's fault it went to the scrap heap in the sky it was mine. She was always a good car...never have found one quite like that old girl.

Oh sorry, yeah the lawns are kinda brown must be early spring pics.

They much use different values in different areas. I think in my area they are using the value of the last sold and adjusted for square footage.
