Excellent suggestion. Everyone should have someone to contact in case of emergency. On your phone. In your wallet. Some single people I know also have "check-in buddies," people they contact before traveling, or dates with new folks, just so that someone knows where they are and who they're with. Can't hurt.
If I went missing...![]()

Posted: Nov 2, 07 11:15amIf I went missing or something happened to me I'm not sure how long it would take for my family members to find out! Has anyone else wondered about that? I'm leaving town today and going to Whistler BC to visit friends. Normally I wouldn't think along these lines - I think I just hate leaving home! I'm single, live alone, not reporting to a job, no kids, I have a ton of friends but none of them know my brother or sister well enough to have their number. They live far away. I have "ICE" on my cell phone but I've never given any of my friends my brother of sisters contact info. Anyway, being that this site is for older, and possibly living alone folks (or people with old folks!)I thought it would be a good idea to mention "ICE". It stands for "In Case of Emergency" and you enter it on your phone with a contact phone number. If you don't have a cell phone then put something in your wallet. When my father died I was contacted by the police because he had my contact info in his wallet. I was so thankful. He lived alone in Vancouver BC so it was impossible to check on him if he didn't answer the phone. Thankfully we had family friends that check on him once or twice when he didn't answer the phone. He was just in the garden! Another idea is to set up "Meals on Wheels" for elderly living alone parents. It was in fact a meals on wheels employee that found my dad after his sudden death heart attack. By chance it was only minutes after his heart attack - I was very thankful that it wasn't hours or days later. I guess being that today is celebrated as "Day of the Dead" by some cultures, it's not a bad idea to share something on the subject!
