I thought the poll described in this CNN article was thought provoking and appropriate for this weekend's reflection. By the way, I have chosen this for my 1000th post here on TBD.

Clearly the founders would be astonished at the economic, technological and other progress made since their passing. What would impress them the most?

*the technology

*the growth

*the education institutions

*our worldwide swagger (or would this be viewed as a negative)

How would they view the current state of politics and the America of 2008 v. the vision the framers constructed.

We know that there was no singularity of mindset amongst the founders and what sprung from their clash of ideas were a series of artful compromises.

So, pick your favorite founding figure and take a stab at what their observations and opinions would be...

My My My,...what have we here?

They would unanimously shout "BOZO LIVES!"

Well, this post didnt inspire the dialog I had hoped...so I'll rant away acappella; This take Thomas Jefferson; A gentlemen farmer, philosopher, states rights oriented and orchestrated the largest growth of the country (La. Purchase). I suspect he would be in awe of our agricultural prowess. He'd be proud of the amount of "learning centers" and the access most Americans have to K-12 education and college. He might be less than amazed as to the literary skills such institutions produce. He'd be horrified at the size, scope and reach of the federal government. However all and all he'd be pretty pleased with the end result and proud of the station of import historians bestowed on him

I think all the founding fathers would be horrified by the size of the federal government. I think the "Patriot Act" and the "Dept. of Homeland Security" would give them fits. "Income Tax" wouldn't impress them much either. Politics as a profession would amaze them, I think.

Franklin, at least, would probably be very impressed with technology and all the gizmos of modern life.
