Songs that make me want to play them again

There are songs....records, really....that I just can't get enough of in one listen. As soon as the needle hits the return groove, I need to return to the groove. Truly, they are over-and-over records.

I'm talkin' about "Glad All Over" by the DC5, "The End Of The World" by Skeeter Davis, "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon & Garfunkel.....quintessential recordings, indicative of a genre, standard bearers for a movement.

Songs you have to hear again...right away....your turn.

OK, my husband would refer to this as the "chick" collection....but if any of these songs came on the car radio, all conversation would cease to enable singing at the top of my lungs.

CandyMeyers,

Your Stevie Wonder selection made me think of my favorite Stevie song: My Cherie Amour. Love it!

My Cherie Amour, lovely as a summer's day

My Cherie Amour, distant as the Milky Way

My Cherie Amour, pretty little one that I adore

You're the only girl my heart beats for

How I wish that you were mine

In a cafe or sometimes on a crowded street

I've been near you, but you never notice me

My Cherie Amour, won't you tell me how could you ignore

That behind that little smile I wore

How I wish that you were mine

Stevie!

Stevie!

ok, i have to weigh in from the rock side of the house. hearing these songs takes me back to all the fourth of july celebrations in my midwest hometown when the local rock station would count down the top 100 rock songs...i almost want to go get a mickey's big mouth in honor of my playlist.

And now for something completely different. Dead Can Dance is referred to as "goth rock" but I don't even know what that means. There weren't many songs available by this band on the amg database, but the ones in this playlist are two of my favorites. You may recognize the voice of one of the musicians here, Lisa Gerrard. She did a lot of the music for Gladiator and all of the music for Whale Rider.

I suppose it's on my mind because my wife and I went to see (and loved) James Taylor earlier this week at San Francisco's Orpheum Theatre...but "Fire and Rain" has to, has to, HAS TO be on my Play It Again list. And yes, JT did play it again at the concert!

Any Gerry & the Pacemakers fans out there? I'd probably add "It's Gonna Be Alright" to my list (with a nod to all those with their snickering "pacemaker" jokes).

And among the scores of Beatles songs that are always candidates for such a list, I'd probably settle on "Follow the Sun" as the one Fab Four tune that I simply never get tired of listening to.
