selling my book

I thought that I had already done this but I guess that I did not. I am a novice at this stuff. I transcribed the diary of a civil war soldier. It completly changed my life. So I wrote a novel called Diary of a Ghost. It mimics his life as the main character travels through time with him through the battles that he witnessed and the prisons that he was confined. I have been unable to sell it the traditional way. I rally do not have the money to self publish, so I thought EBook. Yet how do I find a site that I can do that without having to buy a shopping cart and such? I tried one site and it was miserable loss of money. Where do I go from here?

I am a firm believer in the idea that we all have at least one book in us. Kudos from going from idea to finishing your work.

I am half way through mine (which is code for just started) but did do some reserach as I like you dont have a wad of cash that isnt already committed to other more pressing issues.

I believe I-Universe provides the right flexibility for the meager budgets and allow you to grow your project as you deem prudent.

Here's the link...

Are you in contact with any of the civil war groups? You didn't indicate which side: South or North. You could contact the groups and pursue any contacts that they may have. In book publishing its all about who you know. You need to create a platform for yourself and the book. You have written about something that has interest so you just need to find the literary group that wants that account. For instance, I would spend a day at the book store and on line writing about all publishing house that are pushing civil war books. I would also collect current writers names (yours soon!) and then do some surfing and find out their agents. You would be surprised how many of them are more than happier to give their names. Best of luck!!!

NEVER, EVER, make that never, ever vanity publish, or sell your own book, except to a publisher... Unless you8've got lotsa bucks, and you said you don't, forget anybody that says , "for just.... (whatever)... we'll do this..." They lie.

Lie. As in untruth-telling. You won't get seriously reviewed telling. Forget movie rights, telling... Those kinds of telling (Bye, Brad, Renee, whomever telling)...

You vanity publish, and kiss off the screenplay, whatever.... Rod McKuen notwithstanding, without an ISBN number, you are ()'ed no Vaseline on the barb-wire wrapped bat... Been There, Done That (BTDT)... seen the movie, don't be a rerun, puhleez...

Can you still publish? You betcha, and eBook publishing may be the way to go, as long as you don't give up audio/visual rights... eBooks are you doing the work, and having a distribution site... But you doing the work doesn't involve big bucks - you can get the software as freeware... true story... I'm gonna pray for you now... Contact me further, or I'll butt in if I think you need it, but bottom line, do what most of us do the old-fashioned, but proftiable way.... submit, reject, submit, reject, submit, contract-get-an-agent... YEEHAW!

Thank you for your comments, they make a lot of sense, my problem is that to get to the Civil War she uses supernatural ways and then they go it is not romance it is not horror. We have no place for it. Have you seen all the stupid novels about Vampires lately? It makes me nuts. I have been doing this for 8 years!

Please pray for me. I have actually written four books. Two are ready to go, the other two need work. I have been doing this for nine years and I could paper the walls of my office with my rejections. I got an agent once, who convinced me to take the book from first person to third. Do you know how hard that was? Them she said put more history into it. I had to learn how to fight a freakin' battle! I know it is a good book. I don't think that I wrote it, it just came through me. What am I doing wrong? I gave up for three years and forgot about my books. My agent was worthless. This has been an oddest for me. Yet, it never ends.
