Michael Moore and NHS (insurance)

If you haven't seen "Michael Moore, SICKO"; Id recommend it! Canada, France, England and Cuba have a national health service in which all citizens get free medical care. Some even have free college, $1 for daycare, free mid-wife for 4 hours a day (if needed), unlimited sick leave, one year off with pay for new moms, 5 weeks paid vacations for all, 1 week extra off when you move, 1 week extra when you get married, and prescriptions which cost $125.00 in US for 5cents! That means if you get married, and move to a new home; you will get seven weeks off work, WITH PAY!! The government pays 65% and the employer pays 35%. To top it off; they live 2-3 years longer than Americans. Also; even the poorest citizens, in the highest risk areas are healthier than the richest Americans! There are no guns; and people are rehabilitated when they go to prison. In the US, they are warehoused until their release date; with little or no rehabilitation. They come out angry, and with more criminal behaviors than when they went in! Cuba even treated our heroes from 911, which the US wouldn't. The assassins are in a state of the art prison with full health care.

Will they be covered?

Will they be covered?

I haven't yet seen Michael Moore's SICKO, but I would like to comment on the aforementioned benefits provided by those governments. It may sound wonderful, but someone pays for it.. what are the taxes in those countries? In my state of Hawaii, our government mandates benefits for employees. All companies must provide, health insurance, Workers Comp and Temporary Disability Insurance for each employee. It gets very expensive and many of the small businesses cannot afford to hire employees because of this law. If those benefits sound fantastic.. just think about who is ultimately paying for them.

I am fat...........I was a fat kid and I am a fat adult. I worked for more then 30 yrs. But now I'm taking care of my 94 yr old mother and cannot work. YES I could hire someone and work, but my salary would go to the other person. But I think that this opportunity is not something that I just want to pass off, so I'm caretaking and not working.

But the problem is that I cannot get insurance because I'm fat. But the real problem is that these same insurance companies that are denying me, are the same ones that would insure me no questions asked if I was working and getting it through my employer.

The last 10yrs that I worked I was a contractor through agencies. I always bought their insurance.

After I stopped working and was NOT offered Cobra, I tried to get insurance and was denied. But by California law they have to offer you insurance. So they provided an 800 number. When I called it a woman told me that I would have to send an application with a deposit and be put on a waiting list. A waiting list that they were NOT taking anyone from and did not know when they would. I asked the woman if she heard what she said and then hung up.

I'd rather see my taxes go to providing health insurance than war. So far we've spent $1.6 TRILLION on the war--almost $21k per US family. That could buy a hell of a lot of medical care. But no, our priorities are killing people... in more ways than one.

How do the mid-wifes get paid? Or do they just volunteer their time.

Spunky Monkey:You are thinking exactly the way our government wants you to think! But the sad thing about that is; our government don't give a damn about us. Their only concern is that they profit. ( Unfortunately at our at expense.) These countries take care of their own. They supply top of the line health care for everyone. No papers to fill out; no referrals or long waits for medical care. The government pays for it! They want their citizens to be healthy happy and successful. Where as the US wants to keep us down and weak. This how they keep control. They use the money which the US uses to start wars; to take care of their own people. What a concept!

This country doesn't care who you are, nor what youve done in your life. They hire people at insurance companies, just to turn people down. They don't want to help; they want to profit. If you pose a risk; they'll deny you. Even if you are accepted, than later get sick; they'll claim it was a pre -existing condition! These people move up the ladder according to how much they save the insurance company. Medical care is a privilege in the US; it's only for the healthy or the rich. Cuba cared for our heroes from 911, after the US refused to help. These people lost their homes, jobs, and almost their lives; to help our people out in a tragedy.

Everything is paid for through regular taxes. One couple lived in a four bedroom home, and their only expense was the $1,500 for their mortgage, and their food. The government even reimburses their citizens for transportation to the doctors. This couple claimed to have a combined income of $4,000 a month. They traveled often, and said their life was carefree. When is the last time an American said that?
