XM-Sirius satellite radio merger

The wizards at the FCC, finally made sense and gave the green light to the merger. It means Sat-Rad will be around for a long time and we consumers will get a lot of programming !

The receivers will all work as the programming will be combined at the point of transmission to the "big birds in the sky". Sure, changes will be made for ala'cart and "pay for what I customize", but in general, we consumers will not have to worry about Sat-Rad and it's availability in the future.

I also think it's a huge "kick in the pants" ..(not a vibe) .. to HD Radio ! Now prices will fall on "those expensive receivers" or HD-RAD will just dry up and blow away !

Just think ..we will soon see AM,FM,HD-Rad & Sat-Rad all wrapped up into one convient receiver and one specialized antenna ..heck ..maybe they will even bring back and include CB-Radio (CB-Rad) ...LOL LOL "breaker- breaker 19".... or God forbid .. my hands free cell phone too ...!!!!

What do you think ..?

Crank up the tunes "baby cakes"..!

Bad Frog, my friend! So good to see you!

I, too, am eager to see what's in store for us. Depend, daily, on Sirius to get me through Atlanta traffic.

Only under this administration could the dept of justice, the ftc and the fcc look at an industry and decide that with only 2 players in the markey merging them would not impact competition/free market forces.

True, I live on XM and would not want to see it's demise. I hope this does end up giving us the best of both worlds

Supposedly it will .. we are supposed to get programming on existing sets that originate from both. I suspect the ala'cart will be the "catch-22" and require consumers ot get a new receiver; have new pricing and more customized programming.

IMO ..I really don't care about the ala'cart ..as long as the "yapper heads" are gone ..and get 60's rock ..I am a happy camper..

If you have to depend on bruce Morrow for anything you're in big trouble.

Frankly, I think this was a flawed business model to begin with and the only reason that the merger was allowed was that neither was unsustainable as currently constituted. Frankly, I'm not sure that the combined package is going to profitable enough survive, either. I am afraid that what satellite radio will morph into will be a commercial-based business model (i.e. essentially what radio is now). At that point, satellite radio is dead; who is going to pay money to listen to commercials?

I hope that I am wrong here (even though I don't currently subscribe) but I am not optimistic about the survival of the new model
