Do Pictures Really Matter

I have noticed that some people post pictures of themselves, but others just go with a silhouette, a cat, a smiley face, or anything other then their own face, and I can't help but wonder why that is? Is your scanner broken? Do you not have a webcam that allows you to take still photography? Are you afraid of losing your anonymity? Why don't you post a picture of yourself?

The beauty of the internet is anonymity. Maybe that is why they don't post a picture. I posted one so people think I am a real person.

I know. I used to be like that myself, but people do really like to see real people.

My scanner is in perfect order. I even have a webcam.

I choose not to post a picture of myself.

One reason I can think of for being anonymous, is that when you share something personal about yourself thats one thing. However, sometimes in the course of sharing we might bring someone else into the conversation. like our spouse, child, co-worker etc. That would be spreading info about them that they might want to keep private, and that would be very uncool.

BTW...this happens to be my picture I'm guessing at around 5 months old. I have fun with it, and every once in a while I will change the pic.

A picture is worth a thousand.... you know the rest. Chelle, I hear you on this. Being a social network I don't mind people seeing what I look like. If I need anonymity I can use one of my alternate secret personas.... Of course, ya'll know Obi is my real name, right? Heck, I wish we could have a lil space to post a small library of pics here. I finally started ignoring people who go for the silhouette, and post no profile info.

I started out wanting to maintain my anonymity. I now feel comfortable enough on this site to post a picture, but the sneakers in the grass sorta feel like me now. It's a fun identity and I hate to give it up.

I hear you, and completely agree with what you are saying about the the silhouettes.

I don't know about Obi, though. You look like a Henry to me.
