Where the heck do they go?

I'm talking about socks. You know, two socks of the pair go into the washer, but by the time the laundry comes out of the dryer, a sock goes missing. Eventually, you end up with 10 socks with no mates. Is the washer eating them? Does the dryer blow them out into the ether? Where the heck do they go?

Today was particularly frustrating cuz I lost a pillowcase. A pillowcase, for gawd sake. How does one lose a pillowcase. I've turned the house over looking for it. Is the laundry gremlin getting greeder?

I think aliens from outer space actually come down when we are sleeping and steal socks. This time they grabbed your pillow case because they thought it was a sock. Their eyesight must be failing.

I learned a little trick on the sock thing...

I keep in cup beside washer some safety pins..

So when I put socks in to wash, I put a pin on them

and then I always have the matched pair when I take

out of dryer..

Never lost a sock since ..

Sadly, I know the answer to 'where the socks go'.

Last year I tore apart our washer, took the drum out, the whole kit and kaboodle. I just wanted to say, 'kit and kaboodle' because it's so fun to say.

Anyway, in the deep recesses of the pump I found, bundled up, afraid and alone, several lone socks and I pair of my sons underwear.

I must say that I was a bit sad to have uncovered the mystery. That is until I realized that the aliens must have rigged the washing machine to take the socks!!

Well I made a very long post to this and it is missing! Gone forever.

Did you put it back correctly, the whole kit and kaboodle? (Yes, it's fun to say.) Should I not attempt to do this at home?

I put a pin on them...

Doesn't that make them stretch out funny? Well, I guess that's better than missing. Thanks for the tip.

This was a "Married with Children" episode. The aliens were stealing Al's socks for fuel - they had to be worn and not washed.
