Posted: Nov 21, 07 5:36pm![]() I am a writer/producer/performer of two stage productions celebrating the sexual vibrancy, vitality and viability of the... ![]() Currently, I do not watch very much TV but I used to watch a show called "Sisters" in which I really appreciated the way Sela Ward portrayed a middle aged single mom. Her character was very real. She didn't clean the house in stiletto heels. She wore slouchy sweaters and blue jeans most of the time. She didn't sleep with everyone in the neighborhood. She even went without makeup from time to time. I guess the only current example I could list would be Jolie Fisher in "Til Death". She clothes her imperfect middle aged body in current styles without looking silly. Her face sags and her hair can be a mess, but she has a wicked sense of humor and self-possession I aspire to. Good luck with your show! Posted: Nov 21, 07 5:38pm![]() Okay, so what shall we begin this discussion abiout?... ![]() Boy! That's a good one. I'm going to have to think about it a bit. I haven't watched TV much since I got divorced two years ago. I'm having a dry spell right now, so I'm not sure who I can really relate to, but... I remember envying Meridedith Baxter (as Elyse Keaton) on "Family Ties" - always hoped for that kind close of a relationship with my own spouse, but... Oh, I'm just going to have to think about it some more. I know I loved the way Kathryn Helmond paraded around on "Who's the Boss." She was 55 when the show started. Rue McClanahan was just 51 when "The Golden Girls" first aired. Bea and Betty were 63 and Estelle Getty was 62. I loved the way they paraded around as well. While we never really saw much of anything going on with Mona, Blanche, Dorothy, Rose, and Sophia they were certainly quite active. I'd like to be as active - if not more so when I'm in my 50s and 60s. "Home Improvement," Family Ties," "The Golden Girls," and "Sisters" are all off the air. Where would we be if it weren't for TV-Land and Nick at Night? Those were all shows that I watched as well. And let's not forget about "The Cosby Show" and the fabulous Claire Huxtable! And where are Mary, Rhoda, Phyllis, Georgette and Sue-Ann (Mary-Tyler Moore Show) when we really need them?!!!
