What hotels would you reccomend in NYC in the 300-400 dollar per nite range. Eastside from the 40's on up or Central Park East or West?

Try Orbitz.com - you can sort by location, stars, location. I've tried all the travel sites and Orbitz always turns up the best prices especially if you combine it with flights. We just came back from 10 days in NYC - we always stay at the Murray Hill East Suites (39th between 3rd and Lex) - it used to be an apartment building and has been converted to a hotel...so what you have is an apartment - with a full kitchen and basic kitchen stuff - most of the 1 bedrooms also have a pull-out sofa so if you are traveling family style, it's works quite well economically. There are no amenities (supposedly there is a "work-out" facility and laundry in the basement - never went looking) to speak of but it is very clean, comfortable and while we were there they were bringing in a lot of new mattresses...so I guess the beds are being replaced. If you are only going to be in NYC for a few days then this probably won't be what you are looking for.

I always just shop for the cheapest deals and then choose among the hotels, the prices are extraordinary now that the dollar is so weak that Europeans come to NY to shop for bargains! This is high season in NY, will get better in January, or it did in past years.

Stayed at the Tudor Bay Hotel on 42nd Street/2nd Ave a couple of weeks ago and it was in your price range (which is "moderate" believe it or not). Full service, nice size room and great bed, and very convenient location.

Just got back from eight days in NYC and this is definitely high season. We always stay at the Sofitel NYC on 44th.

When are you going? It was in the high end of your range when it isn't the holiday season but as Robin said, our hotel was full of Europeans with $$euros to burn and multiple shopping bags from high-end stores to prove it. I wonder how much the prices will come down as they have in January's past.

Sofitel gives their "points" for past stays in Euros. They limit how many you can use each stay but we had a $271 credit to our bill which was nice.

I really like the Melrose (formerly the Barbizon) at 63rd and Lexington. It's a great old, art-deco like building on the upper east side with lots of history.

It's in your price range and only 3 blocks from the Park.
