I don't really want to feel 'needed'. I've been caring for things that are dependent on me for so long (kids, parents, pets) that I'm ready to be free of that. I think 'appreciated' is a better description in my case. I found a local group of educators who hold inexpensive 'classes'. They offer everything from hang gliding to photoshop. Suicidal teenagers, young singles, new moms, etc. -- many, many feel alone. There is a big world out there and it is overfilled with people, a lot of whom you would enjoy and would enjoy you. Lots of them are lonely and looking for someone exactly like you. Those who look find you volunteering, working, in class, playing sports, at a book club, TBD - all over the place. Feel in good company that there are others that feel this too. I have gotten rid of my need for attention. I read a quote once that said something like: "What's worse than being alone is wishing you were". I have gotten used to the lack of attention showered upon my soul. This is ok. Although I recently turned 50, I have not yet begun to experience these feelings likely due to the fact that I still have a 10 year old to raise. (Sometimes, I wish I could feel alone! LOL) The only impact that I've felt since turning 50 are the insults, which often times are intended to be funny or very innocent, and the job loss, which I feel is attributed to age, but was likely attributed to my salary. Just last night, while visiting a relative I haven't seen in many years, she asked "how old are you now?". I replied "50". Immediately following, her 7 y/o grandson said "Wow! That's really old". I chuckled and kissed him on the forehead, then said to myself "Just wait until you're little ass turns 50. Too bad I won't be around!!" LOL | ADVERTISEMENT  |
